Junior Board Announces Fall Grant Awards

Port Chester, NY (November 17, 2017) The Junior Board of Family Services of Westchester, Inc. (FSW) has announced three programmatic awards in its fall granting cycle.

  • Guest Home for Adults (White Plains) – $800: Funds will be used to provide a Thanksgiving holiday party for mentally ill adults. Members of the resident’s families will be able to join the celebration.
  • Therapeutic Foster Care – $1,000: Monies awarded will be used to finance three (3) events for the FSW foster care community. Events will include a holiday celebration in December, an educational event focused on self-care for foster families in March and a family cook-out in June.
  • My Second Home (Mt. Kisco) – $1,000: Grant will provide partial funding for a Smartboard which will allow elderly adults who suffer from memory loss and mental impairment to have additional stimulation and socialization via new games, puzzles and cognitive activities.

The Junior Board of FSW is comprised of volunteers who support the Board of Directors and promote the mission of FSW through educational, fundraising and service initiatives. With a focused outreach toward residents of Westchester County who are in their 20s-40s, the Junior Board helps to raise FSW’s visibility as well as identify and connect resources to the organization.

“They are a dynamic group of young leaders who have so much to offer in support of FSW’s mission”, stated Susan B.Wayne, President and CEO. “Since their inception over 5 years ago, they have awarded over $70K to ensure vital programming continues for those most in need within our communities.”

Junior Board grants offer special opportunities that would not otherwise be available because they fall outside regular budgets for many FSW programs. Additional Junior Board grant awards have allowed children in the Head Start program to visit Muscoot Farm and go apple picking; supported building a new playground at the Rochambeau School in White Plains, and most recently allowed over 100 teen girls an opportunity to shop at the Sharing Shelf’s Teen Boutique.
