April 5, 2011

PORT CHESTER, NY – Susan Wayne, President and CEO of Family Services of Westchester, announced that Marlene Furtick, CSW, and Perla Paredes were elected to the agency’s Board of Directors recently.

Furtick served as the Executive Director of the Westchester County Youth Bureau from 2001 until August 2010. Prior to that, she was the Executive Director of the Mount Vernon Youth Bureau and a family therapist at FSW. Furtick has a BFA in Dance from the Boston Conservatory of Music and Dance and as a dancer collaborated with the great Alvin Ailey Dance Troupe. Furtick, a proud graduate of Mount Vernon Public Schools, also holds a Masters in Media Communication from the New School for Social Research and a Masters in Clinical Social Work from NYU. “With her many years of helping urban youth prosper, Marlene will bring a wealth of governmental and programming experience to the Board,” notes CEO Wayne.

Paredes was born and raised in the Philippines and came to the United States 20 years ago to work as a missionary for her church. She and her husband live in White Plains and have three children, including a son who attended FSW’s Head Start program. Paredes worked on Head Start’s Policy Council even after her son graduated and moved onto kindergarten. In November she was voted President of the Policy Council. “Perla has shown real dedication and commitment to our Head Start program and to FSW’s mission. We are delighted to add Marlene and Perla to our Board,” says Wayne.
