Grant Writer

Family Services of Westchester is looking to hire a part-time Grant Writer/Administrator to write grants in support of the agency’s broad spectrum of mental health and social services programs. The grant writer/administrator will be responsible for identifying foundation, corporate and government grant opportunities, working closely with program staff to develop, write and submit proposals, and ensuring that all reporting requirements for funded grants are met.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Four years or more of grant writing experience, including preferably experience producing government, foundation, and corporate proposals
  • Knowledge of the philanthropic and government sectors
  • Interest in mental health and social services and the public policies which shape them
  • Proven track record of securing grants is desirable
  • Strong organizational and editing skills; attention to detail imperative
  • Strong database and computer skills, including Microsoft Office; familiarity with Donor Perfect a plus
  • Strong ability to multi-task, and flexibility to take on new assignments as opportunities arise
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work both independently and to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including program staff, executive staff, funders, and external partners
  • Ability to identify, understand, and articulate program needs and outcomes in collaboration with program staff

Responsibilities:

  • Write grant proposals and reports for foundations, corporations, and government agencies across Family Services of Westchester’s broad range of mental health and social services.
  • Stay informed of funding, policy, and programmatic trends across the agency
  • Collaborate with program staff on project design and budgets
  • Create funding plans and ensure progress towards goals
  • Communicate accomplishments of existing programs to funders through reports
  • Identify and solicit new funders
  • Keep informed on development practices beyond proposal preparation
  • Maintain excellent relationships with program staff and executive staff at all levels
  • Use Donor Perfect to track all prospects, donors, proposals, reports, deadlines, and relationships
  • Work effectively with program staff to research and design program elements, generate drafts for review, and lead meetings to create high quality proposals and reports
  • Represent FSW effectively to external stakeholders, including funders and partner agencies
  • Apply in-depth and broad knowledge of programs, history and trajectory and its funders to various situations as appropriate
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Vice President of Development
