ADAPT Family Mediation

ADAPT, which stands for “A Different Approach for Parents and Teens,” provides confidential support services to youth, ages 11 and older, and their families so they can work through conflicts together that they feel powerless to resolve on their own.

There is no fee for ADAPT’s services.

ADAPT Provides an Alternative to Family Court

ADAPT’s Program Coordinator is a New York State-certified social worker who provides assessments, crisis intervention and support services. ADAPT’s staff of professionals and trained volunteers conducts family mediation sessions that can be an alternative to Family Court through a PINS (Person in Need of Supervision) diversion.

After an initial screening session, the family works with a mediator for four to five sessions to come up with solutions to the conflicts they are experiencing at home.

Common Issues Brought to ADAPT Mediation Include:

  • Truancy
  • Multiple school suspensions
  • Running away
  • Curfew violations
  • Out of control behavior
  • Poor parent/child communication

ADAPT’s support services can include:

  • Parent/child mediation
  • Crisis intervention
  • Referral and linkage to community resources
  • 24-hour response time to referrals

FSW appreciates the support of the St. Faith’s House Foundation for their support of the ADAPT program in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow, NY.
