ADAPT – Family Mediation

ADAPT’s focus is on helping families experiencing conflict and providing support services to youth, 11 years old and older, and their families so they can work out their differences together. We provide confidential services to youth and their families who are experiencing some form of conflict which they feel powerless to resolve.

Our staff of professionals and trained volunteers conduct family mediation sessions. The Program Coordinator is a New York State certified social worker who provides assessment, crisis intervention and support services. Our trained mediators give both teen and parent an opportunity to have a voice and be heard. It can be an alternative to Family Court through a PINS (Person in Need of Supervision) diversion. After an initial screening session the family works with a mediator for four to five sessions to come up with solutions to the conflict they are experiencing at home.

Common Issues Brought to Mediation Include:

  • Truancy
  • Multiple School Suspensions
  • Running Away
  • Curfew Violations
  • Out of Control Behavior
  • Parent/Child Communication

Support services can include:

  • Parent/Child Mediation
  • Crisis Intervention
  • Support Services
  • Referral and Linkage with Community Resources
  • 24 business hour response time to referral.

There is no fee for this program.
