Legal/Family Stabilization Supportive Services

Family Service of Westchester subcontracts through Legal Services of the Hudson Valley (LSHV) to provide supportive services to families affected by HIV/AIDS.

Legal/Family Stabilization Supportive Services (LFSSS) is a legal and supportive services program designed to assist HIV/AIDS-affected families in creating future plans that address issues of family stability and transitions to newly blended households.

Family Services of Westchester aims to support families and work with them to access the legal assistance needed to structure future care and custody plans for children living in the home. In addition, new caregivers are assisted in transitioning and adapting to their new role in negotiating the health education and social systems necessary for the care of children.

LFSSS works with clients from Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster, and Westchester Counties to assist with permanency planning, family stability, powers of attorney, advance directives (including health care proxies), and bereavement counseling.

The program serves HIV/AIDS-affected families with dependent children, ages birth to 21, who are living in the home. Individuals may also be eligible if they are a dependent child (parent or guardian must be involved) or a non-biological parent caring for children whose parent has died from an AIDS-related illness.
