May 13, 2021 – Family Services of Westchester (FSW) today announced it has been awarded a grant of $20,450 from Albertsons to provide hunger relief to families enrolled in their Head Start program in White Plains, NY. FSW is committed to ensuring that children do not go hungry as a result of their economic status.
The funding will provide 234 children in FSW’s Head Start program with breakfast items for every weekend during the month of May. Head Start provides children with nourishing meals during the school week, but providing healthy meals on weekends can be a financial hardship for many families.
FSW is partnering with ACME Markets in Thornwood, Greenburgh, Yonkers and Rye for the purchase of the food. Albertsons is the parent company of ACME and shares the same commitment to fighting child hunger.
“The families we serve are facing economic hardship exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, and this grant will help relieve food security for many families this spring,” stated Polly Kerrigan, President and CEO of FSW. “We express our heartfelt gratitude to Albertsons’ and ACME for their commitment to building healthy communities and eradicating hunger.”
